Look at the penalty for failure, dude
The Miles Todd Crash Video shows it all. (Video warning: adult language) The awe of what mountain biking can be like (in the mountains) and the hazards of a misstep (or miss-pedal in this case). Do you see the fallen rider just to the right of the bike seat? He's 150 feet below his bike.
While I do not ride this type of terrain (yet), I do find a small solace in the video. To survive with little more than a helmet, backpack and gloves says a lot for wearing protective gear. Also, the small (30 foot) drops I see around here (Florida) don't look so bad any more.
Just so you know: I don't know who Miles Todd is.

It's been almost a month since you've posted. I miss peeking into your brain and getting some idea of what you think and how you think.
Hope the workload eases up soon so you can return and write again.
